JPS Students in 7-11th grade: See this information about Summer Camps put out by the Oklahoma State Regents for Higher Education: Students that are now in 7th through 11th grade need to find an academy that interests them and apply. This is a wonderful opportunity for students who think that college isn’t for them; these are hands on, fun-filled academies. Students will find out that STEM is exciting and fun! There are commuter and residential academies-they will get to experience what college is like. If you’re wondering if students want to go to a virtual camp, I can tell you that the other districts we are working with have had no trouble filling between 100 and 140 spots quickly. As opposed to life in 2019, there are not many opportunities like this for students today. Many are struggling so much right now and this program was made to specifically address their lives today. Remember, we are happy to have the top students in the school. However, this is perhaps a once in a lifetime opportunity for those who have leadership potential, who are not yet in the top leadership positions. I cannot tell you how many students have come to RYLA barely able to make eye contact with their peers and left RYLA ready to take on the world, even running for class president and other leadership roles. At this critical time in their lives, please help us make a lasting, positive impact on the lives of our youth.

JHS STUDENTS PLANNING TO TAKE AP CLASSES IN THE 2021-2022 school year: There is a student/parent meeting scheduled for Thursday, May 6 in the High School Commons at 6pm. We will go over AP and its rigor, teachers will share insight about their classes and any summer assignments. We want you and parents to be fully aware of what is involved and expected in AP classes.

On Saturday, May 15th from 10 a.m.-12 p.m., Congresswoman Bice will be hosting a Virtual Service Academy Day. This event is for students 7th grade and older who live in Oklahoma’s Fifth Congressional District and may be interested in attending a United States Service Academy. Attached to this e-mail is a flyer announcing the event. Thank you for any assistance you can provide in distributing this flyer to your students to make them aware of this opportunity. Service Academy Day will feature representatives from the various service academies who will give an overview of their academy, the application process, and answer questions from students and parents. This is an excellent opportunity for interested students to learn more about the United States Service Academies. JHS Juniors interested in attending one of our Military Academies after you graduate high school: You need to schedule a time to see Mr. Moses so you can get started on the application process. The process to apply to a military academy begins in the spring of your Junior year.

Congratulations to 2020 Longhorn graduate, Jayden Reed. She recently received Honorable Mention in the Photographic Society of America's Youth Showcase. Jayden submitted her photo last year into an Oklahoma contest sponsored by the Oklahoma Camera Club. While she did not place in that event, the OCC submitted her image along with several others submitted by fellow yearbooks students to the PSA Youth Showcase. Covid 19 caused delays in the announcements of winners for the showcase, but last month they published the winners in their annual Youth Showcase publication. Jayden received Honorable Mention in the People or Animal Projected category with her image titled Joy. This image was taken at the last Aloha Day held at the elementary school and features middle school longhorn, Nora Pettingill.

ACT MAKEUP IS SCHEDULED FOR APRIL 27 8:30 TO 2. AT HIGH SCHOOL. THOSE STUDENTS THAT MISSED STATE SCIENCE TEST, WILL HAVE A MAKEUP DAY SCHEDULED.
