The contest is open to high school, college/university and graduate students who appreciate the writings of Jane Austin. Participants must write an essay on the following topic: 2019 Contest Topic Abbey Gatehouse Reading Abbey Gatehouse, where Jane and Cassandra Austen attended school from 1785-1786 In honor of the 200th anniversary of Jane Austen's novel Northanger Abbey, we welcome essays on following topic: Northanger Abbey can be described as a book about books. There is, of course, the well-known "defense of the novel,” but characters also discuss their reading habits, name specific novels, and even consider history books.
