Scholarship luncheon update from the Oklahoma City Community Foundation: With the Oklahoma State Board of Education’s recent announcement to close all Oklahoma schools, we have decided to cancel the Scholarship Luncheons at the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. We were excited to celebrate your students’ accomplishments, but we understand that the health of our staff, counselors, students and community comes first. While we will not be rescheduling the luncheons, we will continue to celebrate your students on our social media platforms and through press releases sent to local media outlets. We will also share their names and photos on our digital sign to the east of our building on 10th and Broadway. We will send each scholarship awardee a packet of information about their award, along with how they can claim their scholarship for fall 2020. Please advise your students to check their mail for these packets in the coming weeks.

The State Department of Education is expected to order all schools in Oklahoma to close until April 6. We appreciate our state leaders being proactive during this health crisis. Our administrative team has been working on plans to support our students and their families as much as we can. We have requested permission from the state to provide meals to all families that need that service. We have to consider the possibility that there will be subsequent, longer closures, so we are also working on plans to provide some modified instruction online. Students who do not have the opportunity to participate in online activities will not be penalized; however, we are working diligently to make sure EVERY student will have that opportunity. We hope to be able to provide details on these plans in the next few days.

Information from University of Tulsa regarding on campus events for high school students The University of Tulsa is closely monitoring the coronavirus outbreak (COVID-19) and working with the Tulsa Health Department. As of Tuesday, March 10, two cases of the disease have been confirmed in Tulsa County, one of whom is a family member of a student. In light of these developments, TU is implemented its social distancing policy effective Wednesday, March 11. What does that mean for TU students, faculty, staff, and visitors? All scheduled campus visits are canceled. TU Up Close (March 27) and Discover TU (April 10), as well as the Petroleum Engineering Open House (March 26) have been canceled. All classes for current students moved to virtual instruction on Wednesday. We are so disappointed we had to cancel these events, but TU wants to do its part to protect the public and campus community which, unfortunately, results in reducing visitors to campus. Our admission counselors are ready to answer any questions your students may have and will be reaching out to help schedule phone calls with professors and/or university ambassadors. Please encourage your students interested in TU to contact their admission counselors with questions and to continually check their text and email inboxes as we will be sending content that will help them learn more about life as a TU student. Although classes are now being conducted online, our faculty and staff will be available during regular business hours so do not hesitate to let us know if we can help you as we all navigate through these unchartered territories.
