ACT
JHS Sophomores, Juniors, and Seniors: Jones High School will be administering the ASVAB exam on September 22 at 9am in the high school commons! What is the ASVAB? The ASVAB is the exam used for military entrance and job placement. I am not interested in joining the military, so why take the ASVAB? 1) It correlates to ACT and SAT so it serves as a great free practice for these exams. 2) It is has, hands down, the best career interest inventory around. 3) It helps you complete an ICAP objective. Any Sophomore, Junior, or Senior can take. If you want to take this exam you can sign up in the counselors office.

Federal Programs funding is based on the percentage of students that qualify. If you have already completed with your enrollment, you do not need to complete again. Even if your child will never eat in the cafeteria, please complete and return the forms. Thank you in advance for your support of Jones Public Schools. In April 2023, Jones Public Schools will once again give the College and Career Readiness Assessment (CCRA) to all of our 11th Graders at Jones High School. The assessment that was given last year free of charge was the ACT assessment. Since the majority of our students attend in-state colleges and universities, we believe this assessment is well-suited for our students and their college/university choices. This assessment also aligns with the Pre-ACT assessment that we utilize with our 10th Graders. Right now, we are considering once again utilizing the ACT assessment as the CCRA in April. If you have any questions, or concerns please feel free to contact the following people. - Mr. Mike Watkins, JHS Principal (mwatkins@jonesps.org or 399-9122) - Mr. Curtis Moses, JHS Counselor (cmoses@jonesps.org or 399-9122) We look forward to hearing any feedback as we decide on the 2022 College and Career Readiness Assessment that is required for all 11th Graders. Below is a survey that the SDE has complied for districts to use to assist in collecting feedback. https://forms.gle/p2Em31nAH1X6nrTW7

JHS Students looking for ACT PREP: Steve Bowlware is doing his ACT prep class before the September test. See information from Steve below as well as his flyer on how to register. I cover all main sections of the ACT and the PSAT. Two main goals of these classes are to teach strategies to promote confidence and to refresh basic skills that students have previously learned. The fee for the class will include practice booklets, many handouts, and videos for math help. Parents and students may find out more information by visiting my website, bowlwareactprep.com. For those of you who are new to your counseling position, I would like to tell you about myself. Before my retirement, I taught in the Edmond school system for 39 years. I have conducted my ACT prep class for 26 years and my PSAT class for 21 years. Historically, students who have emailed me their scores have had an average gain of 4 points on the ACT, and I have had a yearly average of 19 National Merit Finalists on the PSAT. A score increase is not a guarantee; however, of the students who have emailed me their score, approximately 95% have boosted their score from a previous ACT or PSAT test result. https://core-docs.s3.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/241/Jones_High_School/2315381/SEPTEMBER_ACT.docx
