Juniors: Jones High School is a member of the Oklahoma City Community Foundation Central Oklahoma Guidance Counselor Network. This allow Jones Students to be eligible for their many scholarships. They have a scholarship available for Juniors and Jones High School is guaranteed to receive one if eligible student applies. This scholarship is the New Opportunity Scholarship(NOS). I have attached flyer for this scholarship. You will need to go to OCCF.org/scholarships and create an account and then apply for this scholarship. The two primary requirements are: 1) to be in top 50% of your class in GPA. If your GPA is 3.14 or above you are in top 50%. 2) Be a first generation college student. The OCCF has modified definition and the modified definition is below First generation college students are students whose parents/grandparents did not go to college. (if parent or grandparent went one or two semesters but did not graduate, you will still be considered first generation) First generation does not include siblings. Your siblings can be in college or went to college and you would still be considered first generation. If you meet qualifications, I would highly encourage you to apply for this $3000.00 scholarship. If you have any questions, see MR. Moses https://core-docs.s3.us-east-1.amazonaws.com/documents/asset/uploaded_file/241/Jones_High_School/3571150/NOS_Fall_Scholarship_Flyers_TL.pdf

JHS Seniors and Parents: The FAFSA for your graduating class will not be available and open until December at the Earliest. Reason for the delay is changed that the US Department of Ed has made to the FAFSA to hopefully simplify and the potential Government shut down will delay it's rollout. Parents and graduating Senior will need to have A FSA ID. This will serve as electronic signature. Parents and Students can go create this right now. This can be done at https://studentaid.gov/fsa-id/create-account/launch Please remember this information because it will be used for all years student is in college for FAFSA. With all the changes to The FAFSA, I have had communication with several different Financial Aid officers and they are willing to come in and do a FAFSA assistance night or we can schedule to do it at the Eastern Oklahoma County Technology Center. This would be a night or day that we schedule and when you walk out your FAFSA will be complete and submitted. I do not want to schedule them to drive in and spend two hours and not have any students and parents show up. IF we schedule it would be sometime in January since the FAFSA will not open until sometime in December. IF you would be interested in participating please let Mr. Moses know at cmoses@jonesps.org so he can gauge interest to determine need to schedule. FAFSA completion is needed for anyone going to college or Career Technology Center. It is also needed for any student on Oklahoma's Promise and many other scholarships. Thank you
