JHS Seniors interested in UCO: See this information about reduced application fee! Right now, our application for admission fee is only $5! As you may recall, our typical rate is $50, so that’s quite a savings for your students! All your students have to do is use the promo code of “BRONCHOBOUND” when they apply to save $45, and this code is good through April 1st, 2021. We all know how difficult this past year has been, and we’re hoping the temporary lowering of our fees will encourage and motivate your students to consider applying to UCO. As a reminder, we have extended our scholarship deadline to April 1st! To be considered for scholarships, students need to complete the scholarship questions in the online application and submit their high school transcript and ACT or SAT scores.

Congratulation to the JHS Girls Bowling team! The Jones High School girls bowling team qualified for State last week for the first time ever. They were Regional Runner up at the Regional tournament. This past weekend they competed in the Oklahoma High School State Bowling Tournament in Enid. They were seeded 3rd and won their matches getting them to the semi-finals. They finished 3rd and gave a great showing in their first State tournament as a team. The team consists of Matlyn Warner, Makena Cruz, Kadence Park, Mia Edmonds, Riley Smith, and Lily Keester. We are looking forward to another run at State next year. Matlyn Warner made All Conference, is on the All Star Bowling team and was selected as an All State Bowler #ITSAGREATDAYTOBEALONGHORN

Congratulations to JHS Senior, Trey Dorrell. Trey was selected as Academic All-State by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. This is a very prestigious honor because only 100 seniors from across the state of Oklahoma are recognized as Academic All-State. Congratulations to Oklahoma’s 2021 Academic All-Staters! These 100 top public high school seniors, selected from 379 nominations statewide, hail from 77 schools in 69 Oklahoma school districts. The 2021 Academic All-State class is the 35th to be selected by the Oklahoma Foundation for Excellence. Since the award program’s inception in 1987, some 3,500 high school seniors from 330 school districts have been named Academic All-State scholars. This year’s All-Staters scored an average of 33 on the ACT, with 11 recipients scoring a perfect 36. The students’ average GPA was 4.26. In addition, 34 of this year’s All-Staters are National Merit semifinalists, and two are National Hispanic Scholar semifinalists. Each of this year’s All-Staters will receive a $1,000 merit-based scholarship and a medallion. The All-Staters will be recognized at the foundation’s 35th annual Academic Awards Celebration on Saturday, May 22, at the Cox Business Center in Tulsa. #ITSAGREATDAYTOBEALONGHORN

JHS SENIORS John Hope Franklin-ONEOK-Epsilon Iota Boule Scholarship The mission of the John Hope Franklin-ONEOK-Epsilon Iota Boule Scholarship is to enhance the educational opportunities through scholarship and mentorship, for racial and ethnic minority high school students seeking to attend institutions of higher learning. A particular emphasis will be place on the cultivation, of the yet to be fully realized potential of the racial and ethnic minority student. We seek to honor the achievements of the scholars in our communities. However, we also want to reach out to those individuals that are “late bloomers”, but are yet on the upward slope of academic discovery. In addition to the scholarship, the recipients may also participate in the Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity’s career mentoring program. The following types of scholarships will be awarded: FranklinScholars – For scholars attending four-year colleges or universities. – Scholars selected annually to each be awarded $2,500 per year, renewable for four years. – One of the scholars will be financed by Epsilon Iota Boule of Sigma Pi Phi Fraternity. HopeScholars – For scholars attending Tulsa Community College or two-year institutions. – Selected annually to each be awarded $1,000 per year, renewable for two years. ReconciliationScholars – For scholars attending vocational schools. – Scholars selected annually to each be awarded $500 per year, renewable for two years. Scholarship Eligibility Requirements: Applicants must have a cumulative GPA of 3.0 and if awarded, maintain a 3.0 GPA in their respective post-secondary education institution in order to receive the subsequent year’s award. JHS SENIORS: OSU is now calculating ACT superscores from submitted official test reports for admission and scholarship purposes. ACT plans to implement section retesting and superscoring. However, due to delays, the Oklahoma State Regents of Higher Education have allowed OSU to calculate superscores for admission and scholarship purposes at this time. This is a temporary policy change and OSU will rely on ACT-provided superscores when they become available.
