Students may apply here: https://slate.wichita.edu/register/DSIapplication2023
Students do NOT need to be admitted, know their myWSU ID, or have their myWSU account created to start the DSI application. However, they will need to be admitted to participate in DSI on November 18th. Applying by Oct 15th will help ensure this happens.
Noteworthy DSI application information:
1) BEFORE you start to enter your information into the application, do your essay questions and activity chart. You CANNOT go back into the DSI app once you’ve started and it won’t save your work for you.
2) Once you have your essays and activity chart finished (and have had someone proofread them), you then come back to the application, complete info, upload and submit.
3) The essays and activity chart are HALF of their DSI score. Be sure to take your time on these!
4) Then you should also go ahead and create your profile in ScholarshipUniverse to ensure you are receiving consideration for as many Wichita State and external/national scholarships as possible.

JHS Seniors: The Oklahoma City Area Christian College Fair will be taking place on Thursday, Sept. 28th from 6 PM – 8 PM at Southwest Covenant School in Yukon, OK.
Representatives from over forty Christian colleges and universities will be at the fair. Each rep can help families understand why they shouldn't rule out an education at a Christian institution and what resources are available for them financially.
All students will also receive a free copy of THE Guide to Christian Colleges and Universities - a 200+page college search resource
Students are encouraged to register ahead of time. During registration, students will be asked to identify the attributes they are currently looking for in a college or university. Students will then receive a list (via email) of schools attending the fair with whom they match, giving them a starting point of schools to talk with.
Additional information and fair registration can be found at FindYourChristianCollege.com.

JHS Juniors and Seniors: As you are working on college scholarships and applications for admissions you may find that you need a letter of recommendation. I want to give some advice on letters of recommendation and tips on requesting a letter.
FIrst Letters of Recommendation can be written by any School personnel, community leader, church leader, or business person. THey just need to be able to speak to your abilities, character, service, leadership, etc.
Recommendation letters should not be written by someone in your family, especially immediate household.
a. When asking someone to write a letter of recommendation, my advice is to request it in person(face to face interaction) not phone or email.
b. Tell the individual that you are asking to write it what it is for, when it is due, and where they need to send it for you.
c. People are very busy just like you. Please give anyone you are asking to write a letter for you ample time to complete it. DO NOT ASK FOR A LETTER OF RECOMMENDATION AND THEN TELL THE PERSON IT IS DUE TOMORROW! Proper planning will prevent this.
d. Provide the person who is writing the letter with information about you that will help them write the letter. I have attached a questionnaire that you can fill out and make copies of to give to anyone you are asking to write a letter.

JHS 9-12 students:
Greetings from Southwestern Oklahoma State University College of Pharmacy! We wanted to let you know about an exciting opportunity for your 9th-12th grade students. We will be hosting an event called PharmCORP on Saturday, September 30, 2023 from 9:30 a.m. to 3:15 p.m. on our campus in Weatherford, OK. Lunch will be provided. This program is designed to demonstrate the various aspects of pharmacy with hands-on workshops conducted by faculty and students at the College of Pharmacy. There will be a $25 non-refundable registration fee to help cover the costs associated with the program. There is a 75-student limit and it is first-come, first-served.
Students can find more information and register online at https://www.swosu.edu/about/pre-college-programs/pharmcorp/index.php. The registration deadline is September 11, 2023. Students will be notified of their acceptance for PharmCORP by e-mail, and an information packet will be sent to them by e-mail as well. Attached to this email is a flyer that can be used for publicity for this event. We would appreciate it if you would share this information with all of your students and encourage them to apply. Given the nationwide shortage of both pharmacists and pharmacy students, this is a great time to consider the profession. Our goal is to educate high school students about our program and the many exciting opportunities currently available to graduates with a pharmacy degree.
