Jones High School Juniors: New Opportunities Scholars Eligibility: • A junior attending a high school participating in the Central Oklahoma Guidance Counselor Network. • Be the first in their family to attend college. For the purpose of this scholarship program, the definition of “first in the family” is that applicant or applicant’s parents, stepparents or grandparents have not attended college. • Unweighted GPA must be less than or equal to 3.79 and be in the upper 50th percentile of their junior class. The Process: If you are recommended by the Scholarship Selection Committee of your high school, you and your parent/guardian will sign a contract stating applicant will complete a series of college preparatory activities including: • Working during the summer between your junior and senior year • Participating in a college campus visit accompanied by your parent. By January 15th of your senior year, your high school guidance counselor must provide certification of these activities to the Oklahoma City Community Foundation. If all of the required activities have been completed, you will receive the documents necessary to claim a one-year scholarship of $2,000. Funds may be used for tuition, fees and books at any academically accredited two-year, four-year or vocational/technical nonprofit institution in the United States. 2019 National Federation of the Blind Scholarship Program
The National Federation of the Blind offers thirty scholarships annually to blind students from across the United States. Any legally blind, full-time college or graduate student may apply, as well as graduating high school seniors who will be attending college full-time in the fall of 2019. The NFB scholarship program is our investment in the future of blind people who demonstrate scholastic aptitude, leadership, and service. All blind college students are encouraged to apply!
JHS Seniors: Lockheed Martin is awarding 200 renewable scholarships of $10,000 each. Awards are open to individuals studying eligible engineering or computer science majors, who demonstrate financial need and come from underrepresented or underserved communities.
Applicants must:
• Be U.S. citizens
• Be high school seniors with a minimum GPA of 3.5, or college freshmen or sophomores with a minimum GPA of 3.0
• Plan to enroll in full-time undergraduate study at an accredited four-year college or university in the United States for the upcoming academic year
• Be majoring or planning to major in one of many specified eligible STEM programs
• Demonstrate financial need
• Be willing to consider a paid internship with Lockheed Martin following their freshman, sophomore or junior year of college (note: the internship is not required to receive a scholarship)
