In compliance with Section 1111(b)(2)(H) of ESSA, Jones Public Schools would like to provide community stakeholders with an opportunity to provide meaningful input regarding our district’s intent to request permission to administer the ACT in lieu of the statewide assessment. Our district selection for the College & Career Readiness Assessment to be administered to all grade 11 students during the OSTP testing window is the ACT. Please provide any thoughts and feedback on this selection to Curtis Moses at cmoses@jonesps.org or Mike Watkins at mwatkins@jonesps.org

As you may have heard, all in-person in-door college fairs through the OCRA (formally OCD/NCC) organization who schedules the yearly fall college fairs around the state have been cancelled for this year. They are working on some GREAT virtual opportunities, but in the meantime…we threw out an idea to our colleagues for us to host an outdoor college fair. We understand the severity of taking safety precautions, but also know we want to offer opportunities for students to meet recruiters in person (while behind a mask and socially distanced) to open those doors for them even if a little outside of the box of the normal daytime college fair environment. We have gotten SO many interested, that we are ready and willing to do this! We are excited for this opportunity to be able to offer a quality college fair, while keeping faculty, staff, and students safe and healthy! So here is the info and we would LOVE you to share this with your students and parents…and even welcome you to attend if you are free to stop by! Student Registration Link: https://rosestatecollege.formstack.com/forms/outdoor_college_fair Facebook Event (where colleges will be highlighted that are attending): https://www.facebook.com/events/1399011840297402/ *PDF Flyer Attached* The following safety measures are being put in place: · Even though it is an outdoor event, we will be requiring masks to be worn and provide masks to those who arrive without one. We will have hand sanitizer stations at various locations throughout the fair area. Each table will be spaced more than 6 feet apart with social distance markers throughout the outdoor space and in front of each table. · Instead of having students grab materials at each table, students will receive a pre-made “Recruitment Bag” with material from each institution at check-in. When students are walking around, they can either pull out their material at the table to ask questions and/or the recruiter will showcase “This is the book that is in your bag, I encourage you to take time to look at pg. 3 when you get home….” type thing.
